Janet Hicks
Janet has been involved with Letchworth Sinfonia since 1996.
She graduated at the University of Birmingham where she won the Hayward Scholarship for instrumental studies. Her violin teachers included Anne Macnaghten and Ernest Element. After settling in Hertfordshire in the late 60s she developed an active career embracing both teaching and playing. Significant positions have been viola player in the Macnaghten String Quartet, chamber music tutor at North Herts College and founder member of the Phoenix String Quartet, specifically for the performance of live music in schools. She recently retired from the Hertfordshire Music Service, but continues to coach at Benslow, and lead the Hitchin Symphony Orchestra, a post she has held for over 50 years.
